When can my puppy join your Puppy Foundation course?

We would recommend starting puppy Training from 8 weeks old, we can manage in the event that your puppy hasn't had their second vaccinations yet.

What is Puppy Progression and how is it different from Puppy Foundation?

Puppy progression is thoughtfully designed and structured to develop on our Puppy Foundation course. 6 weeks really does fly by and in the training world there is a lot of 'puppy classes' but not a lot for those wanting / needing support after. This stage is crucial in your puppies development to solidify and build on skills learnt in Puppy Foundations.

Can my puppy join Puppy Progression if we have done a Puppy Training class elsewhere?

Yes! We would love for you to still join us in Puppy progression, you may be working on and learning a more simplified version of a skill compared to a puppy that has already completed our foundation class as we don't want to push puppies too far and out of their comfort zone at this stage.

Does my puppy need to be fully vaccinated to start training at Ewelme Dog Training Academy?

A: No, your puppy does not need to be fully vaccinated to begin training with us at Ewelme Dog Training Academy. We recognize that early training, confidence building, and positive socialisation are crucial during a puppy’s critical learning period. To support this, our classes are carefully designed with puppy welfare and safety as a priority. We implement strict hygiene protocols, including thoroughly spraying any equipment used in sessions with Trigiene, to ensure a safe environment for unvaccinated puppies to learn and socialize effectively. This approach enables your puppy to gain essential skills and social experiences early on without compromising their health.

What should I bring to class?

Accepted Answer

Plenty of training treats, something soft and chewable that your puppy particularly enjoys! A lower value treat too such as a kibble. 
A harness or flat collar with clip lead. No extendable leads please.
We recommend T-Touch harnesses and sell these in our small shop on site, we can fit for you too.

What if my puppy is over excitable?

This is completely normal and we would encourage you to come to class to learn how to channel that excitement into focus and good manners while still keeping learning fun!

Will my puppy get to play with other puppies?

Accepted Answer

Our focus is on teaching puppies how to be calm and confident around other dogs, rather than encouraging uncontrolled play. This helps build better long-term social skills.

Can children attend classes?

You're more than welcome to bring one, well behaved child along with you and we think its great for them to learn how to train and interact with their new member of the family too!

How many puppies are in each class?

We keep class sizes to a maximum of 6 puppies. To ensure every puppy and owner recieves individual support, assistant trainer Libby will be on hand during classes to help support alongside Charley.

What happens if I miss or can't make it to a class?

Let us know as soon as you can and we'll do our best to help you. We offer 25% off 1-2-1 training sessions for those booked onto a course, if you would like to catch up on a 1-2-1 basis.

Why start training so early?

The first few weeks after bringing your puppy home are some of the most important in their development. Starting training early helps build confidence, prevent unwanted behaviours and create a strong bond between you and your puppy from day one. The courses are also not just for the puppies but for the owners too, there is a whole lot to learn and starting from day one means you give clear instructions to your puppy from the outset. We also delve into unwanted behaviours and how to prevent them and are on hand to help you should you have any questions!
